Who is at risk?

Fracture risk assessment

The health of our bones is down to many factors. A big proportion is down to our genes but other factors can put people at greater risk.

  • Women who have had early menopause or hysterectomy, with the removal of both ovaries
  • Men with low levels of testosterone
  • Broken bones after only a minor fall or knock
  • People who use corticosteroid tablets
  • Family history of osteoporosis
  • Medical conditions which affect the absorption of foods i.e. Crohn's or celiac disease
  • People with conditions that leave them immobile for a long time
  • People who drink heavily
  • People who smoke
  • Women who are underweight or have developed an eating disorder
  • Elderly people (loss of height)

Some people may never have reached or maintained the bone density potential due to periods of poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle. Take a proactive approach before a fracture occurs to improve your Bone Health.
It is considered helpful to establish a first look at Bone Density. Being well informed can motivate you into taking preventative measure.
