Addiscombe OsteoScan

The charge for this service is £40

What to expect at your OsteoSCan appointment

  • No preparation is needed for your scan although if you take a calcium supplement we advise that you do not take it for 24 hours before you appointment.
  • The operator will ask you to pull up your sleeve to elbow height and to remove your watch or other jewellery on your non-dominant arm.
  • You will place that arm into the scanner and will be required to keep it still whilst the image is acquired. This takes about 2 to 4 minutes. You will feel nothing other than a small amount of vibration from the scanner. Although the machine uses X-Rays it is very safe and no shielding is needed.
  • The Operator will discuss with you what the result of the scan is and advise you accordingly. If necessary we will suggest you visit your GP.
  • You will take away a copy of your scan results together with an Information Pack containing information on how to maintain or improve your bone density.
